What Happened?
Last night at the Students’ Union’s popular club night, YOLO, there was a full building evacuation as a result of the fire alarm going off. The Y Plas Instagram account released an official statement today informing the students that it was set off “maliciously” and “for no apparent reason”. Communications between staff suggest that the “break glass” fire alarm was purposefully broken in one of the bathrooms.
The Response from CSU.
The Students’ Union evacuated the entire building whilst the venue was checked for the cause of the alarm. When it was determined to be safe to re-enter, the club night continued, however those who were previously at YOLO were not guaranteed re-entry as it was unfeasible for the venue to identify who had previously been in. Security have been actively trying to identify the student responsible for the evacuation.
The Cloakroom Situation
As not all of the students attending YOLO before the fire alarm were able to re-enter the club, there were numerous coats left behind in the cloakroom. For those who are worried about getting their coats back, they are able to get their coats from the Students’ Union’s Welcome Desk on the second floor after providing a specific description of their coat.
